For a long time until about three decades ago suicide in many low- and middle-income countries was either culturally stigmatized or criminalized by government. In high income countries suicide remains a clinical indication of severe mental disorder. Whereas in all cases suicide was concealed and expression of suicidal ideation forbidden, its psychosocial antecedents and pathogeneses remain largely unexplored. Yet its incidence is undesirable and preventable. The course provides an opportunity to mental health practitioners, medical, legal, theological researchers to study the theoretical and phenomenological tenets of suicide.
